Sears In Watchung To Close

WATCHUNG, NJ — Sears Holdings is closing 20 more stores across the United States, including the Watchung location at 1640 Route 22 East.

According to Business Insider, the company announced the closure to employees on Thursday.

These 20 stores will add to the 245 closings already announced this year by the company.

The first round of closures was announced in January.

In a statement in January, company officials announced the closing of Sears stores across the U.S. "The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take actions to strengthen the Company’s operations and fund its transformation. Many of these stores have struggled with their financial performance for years and we have kept them open to maintain local jobs and in the hopes that they would turn around."

• 14250 Buck Hill Road, Burnsville, MN
• 1640 Route 22, Watchung, NJ
• 1425 Central Avenue, Albany, NY
• 4000 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport, NY
• 601-635 Harry L. Drive, Johnson City, NY
• 7875 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor, OH
• 6950 W 130th Street, Middleburg Heights, OH
