9/11 Attacks to be Remembered on Village Green

Annual event remembers those lost on one of the nation's darkest days.

The Borough of Watchung will gather Sept. 11 once more to commemorate one of the nation's darkest days.

The annual Watchung 9/11 Memorial Service will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Tree of Life Oasis on the Village Green.

The brief ceremony officiated by borough leaders will pay tribute to the men and women lost in the terrorist attacks on New York's World Trade Center, United Airlines Flight 93 and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. Sure to be recalled and mourned are Watchung residents Christopher N. Ingrassia and Honor Elizabeth Waino, who were among those killed that day. Plaques featuring faces of all the victims are part of the Tree of Life Oasis.

The Village Green is the site of a forthcoming Watchung 9/11 Memorial that will feature a large pink heart carved from marble and a piece of steel from the shattered Twin Towers.
