The Union County Baseball Association's 78th Annual Hot Stove League Baseball Dinner was February 9 in Mountainside.  Rob Smorol of Clark was honored with The Chris Zusi Memorial Award for being an outstanding baseball athlete at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark and at Rutgers University. Melissa Tobie of Elizabeth received the Joseph R. Lombardi Memorial Award for being an outstanding athlete in basketball at Roselle Catholic and at Montclair State University. They were congratulated by Union County Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak (R) and Freeholders Linda Carter (L) and Bette Jane Kowalski (2nd R).

Warren County Farmers' Fair featuring the Balloon Festival

Celebrating the American Farmer &amp; Family Traditions since 1937!
The Warren County Farmers’ Fair is more than an agricultural fair. It boasts a hot air balloon festival, and a variety of shows and competitions you don’t often find in today’s world of digital entertainment. From demolition derbies and a rodeo, to fry pan throwing and rubber chicken tosses, the Fair provides a great variety of entertainment for all! 
Located in Harmony Township, NJ – just a few minutes north of Phillipsburg and minutes off Rt. 78 – the Fair runs from Saturday, July 25 to Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Join us for a Fireworks celebration on Sunday night, July 26, at dusk (rain date Monday). The fireworks show in celebration of our nation’s 250 years of freedom is provided courtesy of the Warren County Board of County Commissioners.
The Fair itself celebrates 88 years of affordable family fun. Admission is only $10 for an adult, and $5 for children ages 6 through 12, with 5 and under being free, as well as free parking. Advance admission tickets are available online, handling fees apply.
Fair admission includes access to the balloon festival. It’s like two events for the price of one. If you’ve never been to a balloon festival, the balloons come out in the evening, with a 6:30 pm launch time. Full flight balloon rides are available and may be scheduled in advance to ensure your spot. Email <a href="mailto:fly@balloonfestnj.com">fly@balloonfestnj.com</a> to inquire about pricing and to reserve. Tethered rides are available each evening on a first-come, first-served basis, ranging from $20-$30 per person. The tentative start time is around 5 pm, weather conditions permitting. Patience is appreciated for these popular rides – especially for little ones – as passenger safety comes first.

Saturday, July 25 also features the Farmers’ Fair Fight Fest Combat Robots clashing all day down at the Kids’ Corral.
Sunday, July 26 is Veteran’s Day with free admission for Veterans and active duty military. Monday, July 27 is Seniors Day, with free admission when you show your Medicare card. Stop by a little early and enjoy the free Senior Expo, from 1:30-4 pm, on the dance floor. Seniors can participate in the Senior Chicken in the Pan Toss at 2:30 pm. 
Enjoy Carnival Rides specials throughout the week. Every day you can ride all the rides with a wristband special of $35. Purchase single tickets for $2 each (rides require different numbers of tickets) or save on a Family Pack of 20 tickets for $30 or a Super Saver of 45 tickets $60.

To celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial, nonprofit Jersey Central Theatre Company will be performing a staged reading of a new play highlighting New Jersey history on SUNDAY, AUGUST 2nd, 3:00 PM, at the Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Arts Center (The Carriage House) next to Fanwood Borough Hall. 
“THE FRANKLIN PLAY: or, More or Less a Play About Benjamin Franklin” by Alaina Tennant. Set in 1775 and 1776, when Ben Franklin's son William was the Royal Governor of New Jersey. A large portion of the play takes place at William’s mansion in Perth Amboy. In taking on a new, more nuanced look at the American Revolution, Perth Amboy becomes a place of sympathy and belonging for these characters. Located between the very patriotic Philadelphia and the very loyal-to- the-crown New York City, New Jersey faced a unique conflict in 1776, and that conflict becomes personified here.
The cast will feature members of Actors’ Equity Association, the professional actors’ union. 
Alaina Tennant is a playwright from Akron, Ohio. Her work often deals with questions in history and humanity. She is a BFA Playwright student at Ohio University and an Alumna of The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s National Theatre Institute. Recent awards include the ACTF Region V Julie Jensen Playwriting Award (2026), Bela Kiralyfalvi Student Playwriting Award (2025), and International Thespian Excellence Award for Playwriting (2025). In addition to writing, Alaina is a museum studies student who greatly values her time spent volunteering with local archives and military history museums. 
Doors will open at 2:30 PM. Suggested cash contribution is $10.00 per person. No reservations; limited open seating.
