Voters of Watchunghills Protest Session’s Firing In Westfield

Protesters also expressed outrage about the revoking of CNN reporter Jim Acosta's press privileges from the White House.

WATCHUNG, NJ — Members of the local bi-partisan organization Voters of Watchung Hills joined hundreds of concerned citizens and members of Westfield 20/20 and NJ7 Forward in front of Congressman Leonard Lance’s office in Westfield to protest Donald Trump’s firing of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.

Protesters also expressed outrage about the revoking of CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press privileges after the White House claimed he “placed his hands” on an intern who attempted to take his microphone away.

“Since Leonard Lance no longer has to answer to House leadership, we hope that he will choose to honor the wishes of the constituents he still represents and stand up to Trump instead of standing for him,” Robinson said. “Under the guise of ‘cleaning house after a midterm,’ Trump is portraying the firing of Sessions as de rigueur for an administration. But the fact that Sessions didn’t resign willingly belies that myth. If Trump had nothing to fear, he would have elevated Rosenstein instead or appointed someone whose position regarding the Mueller investigation was at the very least neutral.”

VOW Co-Chair, Stuart Homer, a Democrat, agrees. “Trump’s appointment of Whitaker raises the specter of further efforts to shut down the Mueller investigation. It is a reflection of the current President’s belief that the laws of the land do not apply to him.” Homer sees this as a pattern. “It is of a piece with his ongoing behavior designed to obstruct the investigation both in a legal sense and in a political sense by belittling its mission, its personnel and its origins. It is up to us to insist the law applies to all.”

VOW, which started in January 2017, has a mission to seek responsible and ethical policies in government and to hold elected representatives accountable to their constituents.
