12 State Legislators Want Wayne Councilman To Resign Immediately

WAYNE, NJ — A dozen bipartisan state legislators have asked Councilman Richard Jasterzbski to immediately resign following the release of a video last week showing him yelling an expletive-laden tirade at a Republican Committee candidate.

The 12 legislators told Jasterzbski in a letter Friday that his behavior "is not only unacceptable for any elected official, but your language towards a female volunteer is reprehensible for any person to use toward another."

The representatives, which include 40th District Senator Kevin O'Toole and assemblymen David Russo and Kevin Rooney, asked the councilman to "immediately resign." They hope he will "heed this request so that your community and all involved can move past this very shameful incident."

Jasterzbski can be seen yelling obscenities and cursing Sunday at Enderly-Peracchio in the 10-minute video filmed at the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization's headquarters Sunday. The confrontation allegedly stemmed from Republican candidate James Marracco taking a sign down there for Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno earlier in the day and replacing it with a sign for former candidate Lonni Miller Ryan. Enderly-Perracchio reportedly took Miller Ryan's sign down later.

"You wish you were being f---ed by me," Jasterzbski said in the video. "You don't have to worry about me penetrating you at all. You wanted fair and square and you should have been satisfied with that, but you stood there and you let them corrupt the system of political process."

Mayor Chris Vergano, who won the primary Tuesday against Miller Ryan, also asked Jasterzbski to resign "effective immediately."

Jasterzbski previously said he will not resign. Jasterzbski was appointed to the Town Council in 2013. He was elected to a full term in 2015. He defended his actions after the video was released. He said he will not apologize either.

"I will defend myself and defend the voters and residents of the 1st Ward, as I have for the last 3-and-a-half years," he said. "She has no right whatsoever to be touching any signs."
