UPDATE: Two Men Critically Hurt In Hit-And-Run Boat Crash In Passaic County

Edwin Lane and Robert Roon suffered life-threatening injuries when their boat was struck on Greenwood Lake Monday night, police said.

State Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the operator of a hit-and-run boat that hurt four people, two of them critically, on Greenwood Lake in West Milford.

At about 8:36 p.m., an 18-foot Bayliner was struck at the stern by an unidentified vessel, possibly a personal watercraft, just north of Sportsmans Marina, police said.

After striking the stern, the watercraft was launched into the air and went over the Bayliner, police said. Investigators do not believe the watercraft had an outboard motor.

Edwin Lane, 72, of West Milford, the Bayliner’s owner and operator, and his passenger, Robert Roon, 76, of Newfoundland, were “seriously injured” in the crash; their lives, Mary Lane, 74, and Eileen Roon, 70, received non-life-threatening injuries, and were able to render aid immediately to their husbands and brought the boat back to the dock, police said.

Edwin Lane and Robert Roon were flown to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Cetner in Paterson where they remain in critical condition, police said.
