Man Stabs 2 People Before Setting Home Ablaze, NJ Police Say

The suspect set up a barricade within the home, leading to a stand-off with police, officials said.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A man is in custody after stabbing two people and setting a fire to a Passaic County home, according to officials.

Around midnight Monday, first responders were called to 192 Berkshire Avenue in Paterson on reports of two stabbings.

Officials say an “emotionally disturbed individual” stabbed two people before setting up a barricade within the home, police said. Both stab victims were treated for non-fatal wounds, officials added.

News12 reports that the suspect was a man and that one of the people he stabbed was his father.

Following the stabbing and the barricade, the individual set fire to the basement of the one-and-a-half-story wood frame home, according to authorities.

After a stand-off, the suspect was put in custody, and the fire was extinguished, police said.

Authorities have not announced the individual’s identity or any criminal charges at this time.

The incident is still under investigation by police.
