4 Inches Of Rain, Floods Possible In Wayne Through Wednesday
Thunderstorms, high gusts and rapid rainfall are all on the table for the upcoming storm.
WAYNE, NJ — Thunderstorms, high gusts and rapid rainfall are all on the table for the upcoming storm in North Jersey. And forecasters expect Wayne to receive 2 to 4 inches of rain Monday evening through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the area that will last from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Tuesday. The storm brings the potential for up to an inch of rain per hour at its peak, leaving urban settings, poor-drainage areas and land around rivers and streams susceptible to flooding.
Forecasters also expect strong winds for 30 mph. But the wind will likely be strongest along the coast, reaching up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Here's the forecast for Wayne as of Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service:
- Monday night: A chance of rain and thunderstorms before 9pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 9pm and 11pm, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 54. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
- Tuesday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 58. North wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
- Tuesday night: Rain likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 49. North wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
- Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of rain before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. North wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
- Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 45.
