6 Wayne Residents Inducted Into DePaul Catholic Hall Of Fame

Inductees include Coach Steve Beneventine.

Twelve people, including five Wayne natives, were inducted into the DePaul Catholic Hall of Fame Wednesday.

The following Wayne natives were inducted:

Louis Aboyoun — Class of 2004

Sports played at DePaul: Football, lacrosse, and baseball

Honors earned: Passaic County Hall of Fame, two-time first team all-county and first team all-state selection for lacrosse and first team all-county for football.

Proudest athletic moment at DePaul: Defeating Passaic Valley in his last high school football game on Thanksgiving Eve in front of my family and friends.

Coach Steve Beneventine

Years coached at DePaul: 1982 to 1987 and 2004 and present

Sports coach at DePaul: Soccer

Honors earned: Named coach of the year three times, two high school all-Americans, 27 players on all-state team, 40 players on all-county team, 47 players on all-conference team, 15 players selected to play in the senior all-state all-star game, 2011 and 2014 Passaic County champions, and 2012 and 2013 conference champions.

Proudest athletic moment: Winning the first Passaic County title in DePaul boys soccer history.

Chaz Cervino — Class of 2007

Sports played at DePaul: Football and basketball

Honors earned: Selected to Under Armour All-American Game and Governor’s Bowl, Star-Ledger and 1500 WGHT Radio Offensive Player of the Year, first team all-state association press, north jersey, Passaic County, non-public, area Herald News, and all-league teams. Holds school records for: More than 8,000 total yards of offense, 5,700 passing yards, and 93 touchdowns.

Proudest athletic moment: Beating Holy Spirit who was ranked No. 1 in New Jersey during his sophomore year.

Julie March Dentinger — Class of 1987

Sports played at DePaul: Basketball, softball, and cheerleading

Honors earned: All-sate and all-county basketball player, state softball and basketball champion

Proudest athletic moment: When her coach pulled her out of class to tell her that she was selected as an all-state player and was going to play in the all-steam North South game.

Bryan Gambuzza — Class of 2007

Sports played at DePaul: Football and baseball

Honors earned: Led all wide receivers in the state in yards with 1,062 and led Passaic County with 62 receptions and 14 receiving touchdowns in 2005. He led all of North Jersey with 58 base hits and wa the Passaic County baseball Player of the Year in 2006. He was voted first-team designated hitter on the Passaic County All-Decade Team.

Proudest athletic moment: Beating Holy Spirit to reach the state final football championship game and finishing his baseball career with the most hits in school history.

Jaclyn Rahey — Class of 2007

Sports played at DePaul: Volleyball, basketball, and softball

Honors earned: All-state, all-north jersey, all-county, and all-conference selection for both softball and volleyball; student athlete of the year, 2007; invited to try out for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Softball Team, and was selected to the 2000-2010 All-Decade Softball Team, 2004 Passaic County volleyball and softball champion.

Proudest athletic moment: Getting the game-winning hit against West Milford in the Passaic County tournament semi-final game.

Others inducted were: Ted Fitzpatrick — Class of 2000, Bryan Gambuzza — Class of 2007, John Gleason — Class of 1961, Mackenzie Lynch Emmons — Class of 2005, Michelle Merlino Mannix — Class of 1985, Jack Sullivan — Class of 2003, and Bob Weir — Class of 1978.
