WAYNE, NJ — A stand-off at a Wayne residence between police and a suspected killer ended with the suspect's death, authorities say.
Over the course of several hours Sunday night into Monday morning, police engaged in a stand-off on Westview Road with a suspect who'd barricaded himself inside a home.
That suspect, Luciano Vargas, 59, was thought to have fatally shot Manuel Colon, 61, just before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday in Hudson County, police said.
After several hours, Wayne police and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team entered the home, where they found Vargas dead.
Hudson County prosecutors say it appears Vargas died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The killing of Colon is thought to be a domestic violence dispute, according to prosecutors. The investigation is ongoing.
At around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Wayne police announced that the incident had concluded and that there was no longer a threat to the public.
