Back-To-School Roundtable For Wayne Parents Is Tonight

The Wayne Alliance For The Prevention Of Alcohol and Substance Abuse is sponsoring the special event.

WAYNE, NJ — A special roundtable discussion for parents on how to help their children avoid the temptation to drink and take drugs is tonight.

The discussion will be in the Wayne Township Council conference room, next to the clerk's office, at the Wayne Municipal Complex, from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Wayne Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse is sponsoring the event. Several survival strategies will be discussed, such as peer pressure, issues at lunch and kids not making sports teams will be discussed.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which the Alliance cited in its publicity of the discussion, 30 percent of teenagers from 12 to 17 will experiment with alcohol, marijuana and prescription pills.

The Alliance is a nonprofit funded by grants and run by volunteers. It works to try and end substance abuse in town by educating parents and children about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.
