5 Wayne Students Hospitalized After Tractor-Trailer Sideswipes Bus
Students were on their way to Dorney Park in Pennsylvania when a tractor-trailer sideswiped their bus, officials said.

WAYNE, N.J. — Five Wayne Valley High School students were taken to the hospital after a tractor-trailer sideswiped the bus they were riding on Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania Tuesday morning, Superintendent Mark Toback said.
At about 10:15 a.m., the bus was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer in Lower Saucon Township, Toback said in a press release.
The 37 students were on their way to Dorney Park in Allentown for their senior class trip. A teacher and a guidance counselor were also on the bus.

Emergency responders took five students, a district employee, and the bus driver to Saint Luke's Hospital, Toback said. The remaining students, who were not injured, were taken to Dorney Park where a Wayne Valley High School nurse evaluated them.
None of the injuries were serious, Toback said, and the seven people were released from the hospital following an evaluation.

Toback said Tuesday afternoon authorities do not know what caused the crash.
Channel 6ABC in Philadelphia reported that the bus was sideswiped by two tractor-trailers.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Mark Allen could not be reached for comment.
Additional counselors were on hand in Wayne Public Schools to meet with students Tuesday.
"We would like to thank the local agencies, first responders, the Pennsylvania State Police, and Dorney Park employees who all extended themselves above and beyond in caring for the needs of our students during a difficult time," Toback said.
