Carbon Monoxide Kills 2, Injures 12 Others In North Jersey Recording Studio

Carbon monoxide poisoning killed two people and sickened 12 others Saturday in a recording studio in Passaic County, authorities said.
At about 1:30 p.m., police found the two dead on the second floor of the three-story converted factory building in Passaic, while a dozen others “experienced confusion and were choking,” according to The Associated Press.

Mayor Alex Blanco, speaking at a press conference outside the commercial building on Willet Street, called it ”sad day” for Passaic, and said the cause of the carbon monoxide poisoning is under investigation, according to The Associated Press.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those who died, noting only that a 911 call alerted police to the incident, and the quick response by first responders helped minimize the casualties, according to nj.com.

The 12 who survived were treated at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson and Hackensack University Medical Center on Saturday. Six of the patients were in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital, according to nj.com.
The building is occupied by Streets Rehearsal Studios and has about 20 rehearsal spaces used by local musicians, according to northjersey.com.
