Cedar Crest Employee Named Autism Ambassador by United Nations

Cimins, the father of an Autistic child, was recognized for his outstanding work as founder of the non-profit organization Autism Radio.

Paul Cimins, director of dining services at Cedar Crest Retirement Community, was named one of five Autism Ambassadors by the United Nations for 2018. Cimins, the father of an Autistic child, was recognized for his outstanding work as founder and president of the non-profit organization Autism Radio.

“I am honored to be named an Ambassador and to be able to bring more awareness to autism through my work with the United Nations,” said Cimins.

“We are so proud of Paul,” said Cedar Crest Executive Director Todd DeLaney. “Paul is passionate about helping people live better lives – both on our campus and in the community.”

Cimins also received the Univision Autism Ambassador for the Latino population award for his work translating material and radio content from Autism Radio into Spanish on April 29.

Autism Radio’s mission is to improve the lives of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their friends and families, who struggle to understand, treat, care for, and get the help necessary for their loved ones. The organization raises funds to support families in need and raises public awareness about Autism.

Autism Radio has a weekly podcast/radio show each week and has launched many programs including an IPads for Autism, therapeutic horseback riding program for autistic children, “Hope Saves the Day” Special Olympics swim team and lessons, and more. In addition, the organization had helped hundreds of families get the support they need by connecting them with various free programs as well as provide direct support to families for therapy equipment and medical expenses.
