Charges Upgraded Against Drunk Wayne Woman Who Injured Boy In Crash

WAYNE, NJ — Police filed additional charges Tuesday against a drunk township woman after authorities further investigated a crash where a then-9-year-old boy was critically injured in a motor vehicle crash she caused, police said.

Gina Demario-Aubin, 58, was charged with two counts of assault by auto following the March 23 crash. Matthew Polifonte, 10, was critically injured when Demario-Aubin crashed her Mercedes GLK 350 into the Toyota Sienna he was in and pushed it into three other vehicles, police previously said.

Demario-Aubin was initially charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated through a school zone

Wayne Police Officers Thomas Sanders and Brent Cannon, along with the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Division investigated the crash. Laboratory blood tests revealed that Demario-Aubin's blood tested positive for alcohol when the crash occurred.

Poliftone lost consciousness at the scene and he was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson. He spent his 10th birthday recovering in the hospital.

More than $72,000 was donated to the Poliftone family through an online campaign following the crash.
