Ex-Wayne Firefighter, Florida Cop Adam Jobbers-Miller Buried
Florida Police Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller was laid to rest Monday. He was shot in the line of duty last month and died a week later.

WAYNE, NJ — Hometown hero Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller was buried Monday, more than a week after he died after being shot in the head in the line of duty in the Florida town where he was a police officer.
Fort Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs spoke at Jobbers-Miller funeral.
"Adam had a knack for helping others," Diggs said as he stood at a podium behind Jobbers-Miller's coffin, which was covered with an American flag. "He showed signs of a promising future in law enforcement. Adam touched many lives during his short time with us and for that we will forever be grateful." Diggs thanked Jobbers-Miller's parents, David and Patricia, for giving him the honor of knowing their son.
Jobbers-Miller was a Wayne Valley High School alumnus and a former firefighter with P.O.L. Company No. 2. He joined the Fort Myers Police Department in September 2015. His father is a former chief and life member of Co. 2 and his sister, Nicole, is a long-time member of the Wayne First Aid Squad.

"We understand when we put uniform on and say goodbye to our families the risk we face and the relief we feel when we arrive back home safe," Diggs said. "We face the unknown each and everyday. We understand that it is our job to run toward danger when other run away. We understand that bad things happen to good people."
Jobbers-Miller was shot by Winser Desmaret, 29, during a foot pursuit in Fort Myers, Florida July 21, police said. He was in critical condition since Saturday. Desmaret was wanted for allegedly stealing a cell phone from a group of kids.
Desmaret was charged with eight felonies, including first-degree attempted murder, upon his release from the hospital, Diggs said. It is unknown if any of the charges were upgraded or changed following Jobbers-Miller's death.
"A hero is described as an ordinary person facing extra ordinary circumstances acting with courage, honor, and self sacrifice," Diggs said. "Today, we are here to honor our hero."
