Fire Engulfs Wayne Home After Storm, Hydrant Under 2 Feet Of Snow

Residents and fire officials rushed to dig out the closest fire hydrant.

WAYNE, NJ — Flames engulfed a Wayne home this weekend just as the winter storm finished dumping more than two feet of snow on the ground.

On Sunday evening, several fire departments were called to Lionshead Drive West on reports of a three-alarm house fire.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that the closest fire hydrant had been buried in snow. Wayne saw more than 15 inches of snow over the weekend.

According to fire officials, both residents and firefighters rushed to uncover the hydrant. It was eventually uncovered, and the fire was extinguished.

“This is an unfortunate reminder to clear the fire hydrant nearest your house of snow,” a Wayne Fire Company #4 post read. “Please clear an area of 3 feet in all directions and a path to the street.”

Fire officials did not confirm if anyone was injured in the blaze, nor the cause of the fire.
