Flooding, Downed Trees Close Roads Around Wayne Friday: See Latest
Several township roads are closed Friday morning due to flooding and a tree down on power lines. More rain is on the way.
WAYNE, NJ — Flooding and a downed tree have closed several roads around Wayne Township on Friday morning, with a slow-moving band of precipitation expected to bring even more rain throughout the day.
A flood advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. Friday, meaning that urban and small stream flooding is very likely due to the heavy rain moving through. And, Wayne Township will remain under a flood watch until Saturday morning at 6 a.m., as forecasters predict flash flooding into tonight.
As of 3:30 p.m., the following roads are closed, township police said:

- The Westbound lanes of Hamburg Turnpike are closed between Valley and Hinchman (flooding)
- Jackson Avenue is closed from Squad Place to Ridgeview Terrace (tree down on power lines)
Lake Drive East has reopened from Gina Marie Court to Lake Drive West, and Willowbrook Boulevard has also reopened from North Leg to Route 23 after an earlier flooding closure.

A total of 2 to 4 inches of rain are possible in northeastern New Jersey from this storm, with locally higher amounts possibly up to 8 inches, per the National Weather Service.
Some weather models are calling for 9+ inches of rain from western Long Island, New York, to just north of New York City (including parts of Connecticut).
Rainfall rates of 1 inch per hour or more are possible at times, forecasters added as they warn of more localized flash flooding along local waterways, in urban areas, and in low-lying communities.
