"I just felt the love there," Cruz told The Record's Art Stapleton. "There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't get a text from someone there. I definitely felt the love, and I'm excited to have another opportunity to write the next chapter for me in the NFL."

Cruz, 30, is expected to fly to Chicago and sign a one-year, $2 million contract Tuesday, according to the report. The deal includes an additional $2 million in incentives.

Giants joined the Giants in 2010 as an undrafted rookie. The Paterson native quickly became a fan favorite with his touchdown salsa dance and helping the G-men with a Super Bowl in 2011.

Cruz was set to earn $7.5 million from the Giants this season. The team said he could return, but at a reduced rate. Cruz had been relegated to the third wide receiver spot this season behind Odell Beckham Jr and Sterling Shepard.

Cruz had a career high of 1,536 yards in 2011 and 10 touchdowns in 2012. He missed the entire 2015 season with a knee injury.

"That's where I was born, essentially, from a football perspective, and [the Giants and the New York City area] will always be home, always be family," Cruz said in The Record report.
