Fund Set Up For Boys, 1 And 3, Who Survived Bridge Fall With Dad

John Spincken, 37, of Pequannock was holding his sons when he jumped from the Wanaque Bridge on Interstate 287 Monday, police said.

In about a day, an online campaign has raised more than $30,000 for the two young boys who survived a 100-foot fall from a bridge off Interstate 287 with their father, who was killed.

The Go Fund Me page, which was started by friends and family of John Spincken, 37, the father, is also raising money to help pay for his funeral.

According to authorities, Spincken drove to the Wanaque Bridge Monday night after a domestic dispute that involved the police. He allegedly threatened to hurt the kids, Johnny and Frankie. Their mother, Fran, called police. Police followed Spincken and then traced his location through his cell phone provider, authorities said.

"Although judgement may be the easy route, compassion is what is needed now. As with the 7 billion other souls on this planet, John was not perfect," the organizer of the page said. "We will never understand the pain in his heart nor the hope that he lost."

Spincken jumped at about 8 p.m., and was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. after authorities found his body, according to police.

The boys, ages 3 and 1, were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The goal of raising $20,000 was reached in less than 24 hours.

"Words cannot describe our gratitude for the support for Fara and the boys," a message on the page states. "We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts."
