See Funeral, Fundraiser Information For Passaic Co. Firefighter Roy Sconfienza

WEST MILFORD, NJ — Family, friends, and coworkers are preparing for the funeral of longtime West Milford firefighter and public servant Roy Sconfienza, who died suddenly on July 10.

Brianna Wallace, a friend of the family, organized a GoFundMe page for Sconfienza's wife Sandy and his daughters Amanda and Jessica.

Sconfienza was a 30-year veteran of the West Milford Fire department, holding several positions during his tenure, and was a "beloved" Department of Public Works employee in Haledon. Original article — Longtime Passaic Co. Firefighter And Public Worker Dies

The fundraiser has raised $3,570 of a $35,000 goal as of Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Funds will assist the Sconfienza family with memorial costs and other needs "while they navigate this unexpected circumstance."

"Unfortunately we have all had a piece of our hearts broken with his sudden passing and there is nothing that can ever change that," wrote Wallace, who said she knew Sconfienza since she was 9 years old and called him "Papa."

"I think Roy would want us all to smile, laugh, tell jokes, and stories in his memory and honor," she wrote. "If we continue to do that and manage to keep him a part of our everyday somehow he will always be with us."

According to the GoFundMe and the West Milford Fire Department, visitation hours will be Friday, July 14 at two times: from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation is at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff NJ).

Sconfienza's funeral proceedings will be Saturday, July 15 with final words at the funeral home. Then, there will be a funeral procession to the burial site at George Washington Memorial Park (243 Paramus Road, Paramus NJ). A repast will follow.
