Heart 'n Hands Mission is collecting Blessing Bags for the Homeless and Working Poor in New Jersey

November is the month when we give thanks for our abundant blessings, for family and friends, for food on our table, clothes on our backs and the roof over our heads. It is also a time that we remember our friends in need who may be struggling, hoping and praying for some of these things we so often take for granted.

The volunteers at Heart ‘n Hands Mission do their best to do what they can to help others in their time of need. By bringing clean good quality clothing they give people dignity, by bringing blankets and sleeping bags they provide warmth and shelter to those living on the streets, by bringing new socks they help the homeless in their daily struggle to keep their feet dry and protected, and by bringing toiletries volunteers help them maintain good health and hygiene.

Heart 'n Hands Mission has begun its fourth annual Fall Blessing Bag project. Please consider donating travel size toiletries to help a person in need. There are 22 different items on our Blessing Bag list. That is less than 1 item per day to fill a bag of necessities in the month of November. Each Blessing Bag is a gallon size Ziploc filled with travel size toiletries: shampoo, soap, body wash, mouthwash, toothbrush, toothpaste, shave gel, 2 disposable razors, lotion, 8 Bandaids, Hand Sanitizer or antibacterial wipes, chapstick, Gold Bond Medicated Powder, 30 Q-tips, dental floss, tissues, a small comb or brush, handwarmers, a granola or protein bar, a pack of gum or lifesavers, and a pack of snack crackers or 2 small Slim Jims. If filling a complete bag is not possible, please consider donating a few of the items on the list or making a monetary donation and Mission volunteers will do the shopping,

Heart ‘n Hands Mission of St. Timothy Lutheran Church serves over 1,000 people per month. Our goal is to provide each one with a bag of blessings for the holidays. A simple note of encouragement or cheer is a welcome addition to each Blessing Bag. It may be the only uplifting message they receive this holiday season.

The Blessing Bag Project is a great service project for families, Scout Troops, Congregations, Confirmation Classes, Sunday School groups, Moms groups, school groups, sports teams, clubs and businesses. By working together we can make a difference!
