Make Your Dream Retirement A Reality at Cedar Crest

When Joan Underwood toured Cedar Crest, she was impressed by the range of amenities.

Cedar Crest, an Erickson Senior Living community in Pompton Plains, N.J., is redefining retirement living.

Freed from the burdens of homeownership, like mowing lawns, raking leaves, and ongoing repairs, residents have more time to participate in engaging activities, make new friends, and enjoy an array of on-site amenities.

Just ask Joan Underwood, who moved to Cedar Crest in September. Since settling into her residence, she has taken advantage of the all the community has to offer, including a variety of modern restaurants, a well-equipped fitness center, convenient medical care, and a range of clubs.

"There is so much activity and so many talented and friendly people!" says Joan. "There was a feeling of being home from the first day."

A 'positive vibe'

When Joan toured Cedar Crest, she was drawn to the community's location, just 30 minutes from her kids and grandkids, as well as the "campus feel."

"I went to Penn State; a large university built around Nittany Mountain. Cedar Crest has a similar vibe, which made me feel so comfortable," says Joan, a former flight attendant.

She was also impressed by the maintenance-free homes and array of amenities, offering her more freedom to do what she loves. Cedar Crest boasts a fitness center, library, creative arts studio, hair salon and barbershop, woodshop, TV studio, performing arts center, and more.

"I left with such an incredibly positive vibe about the place," Joan recalls.

When Joan's son suggested she check out other retirement communities before making her decision, she did. But she quickly realized that they couldn't compare to what Cedar Crest offered.

"I came back to Cedar Crest, attended more events, and met more people. Everybody was so nice. And they're exercising, socializing, and eating correctly. They're doing all this great stuff!" says Joan, confident she had found the perfect community for her.

A vibrant lifestyle

Since moving to Cedar Crest, socializing and making new friends has been easier for Joan, especially compared to living in a house that no longer met her needs.

Participating in activities, visiting the fitness center, and simply having dinner at the seven on-campus restaurants spark opportunities to meet new people. Menu items at Cedar Crest's fast-casual venues, bistros, bars, and full-service restaurants change regularly--something she didn't expect of a retirement community.

"I love that you can get carryout and take it back to your place, [if you want]," she says.

Joan, a gardener, also appreciates the community garden, where residents can tend to fruits, vegetables, and flowers in personal patches. She enjoys participating in yoga and memoir-writing classes as well.

Envision your future

Sales Manager Jessica Cirelli encourages anyone considering a move to Cedar Crest to schedule a personalized tour.

"We tailor visits to highlight areas that matter most to you. If you're interested in active spaces, we'll see the pool and clubrooms," she explains.

For a more in-depth look at community life, Cirelli recommends joining the Priority List. "In addition to saving a spot in line for a future residence, members can sign up for a Live the Life stay," she says.

During an overnight stay in a furnished suite, guests can dine at the on-site restaurants with current residents who share similar interests, sample amenities like the fitness center, and attend events or club meetings.

"These experiences allow prospective residents to explore independently and envision the Cedar Crest lifestyle for themselves," she says. "So many prospective residents are impressed with all the amenities and the value of our worry-free lifestyle!"

'Happy to be here'

Reflecting on her time living at Cedar Crest, Joan is so glad she found a community that allows her to make the most of her retirement years.

"I've met so many women who are independent, like me," Joan says. "I'm very happy to be here for that reason!"
