Hundreds attend Memorial Day Ceremony at Cedar Crest
More than 200 residents and staff attended the moving ceremony held in Cedar Crest's Interfaith Chapel.

On May 28, to pay tribute to fallen veterans, and the courageous men and women currently serving the country, Cedar Crest, a developed and managed Erickson Living retirement community in Pequannock, New Jersey, held a Memorial Day Ceremony and displayed full-size American Flags, on eight-foot poles throughout the campus. More than 200 residents and staff attended the moving ceremony held in Cedar Crest's Interfaith Chapel.
“Cedar Crest continues to be an example of how a community can come together and demonstrate a shared sense of empathy and compassion,” said Executive Director Todd DeLaney during the ceremony. “We can certainly feel that in the room today as we remember and honor our fallen service men and women.”
The program included a Parade of Colors by MCJROTC Color Guard from Admiral Halsey Academy; Pledge of Allegiance led by Bob Murray; welcome and greetings from Cedar Crest Executive Director Todd DeLaney and Associate Executive Director Kristen Compton; remarks from Congresswoman Mikie Sherril, State Senator Kristin M. Corrado, Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney, and Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips as well as a letter from Senator Cory Booker. Also, students from Stonybrook Elementary School read “Memorial Day” essays and poems, the Cedar Crest Chorale led by George Swope performed patriotic songs, and Cedar Crest veterans Frank Grehl and Ted Ogren gave remarks. Reverend Art Bauer gave the invocation and Cedar Crest Pastoral Ministries Manager Bert Moore, who spent five years in the Marine Corps as an artillery officer and 25 years in the Navy as a chaplain until 2007, gave the benediction.
