IRS Warns Of Back-To-School Scams
Scammers call and tell people they owe non-existent taxes, like the "Federal Student Tax."

Scammers will call and demand payments for non-existent taxes, including the "federal student tax."
Scammers often become aggressive if the person does not comply and threaten to report the student to the police to be arrested.

The agency will not threaten to bring in local police and have the person arrested for not paying.
If someone does receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the IRS they should hang up immediately and search the internet for telephone numbers scammers use. Some of the numbers may be linked to criminal activity.
