Junk Detective Jim DelGiudice Gives Talk at Cedar Crest Retirement Community
More than 30 residents attended the special event on campus and learned about the little things in their junk drawers

On October 20, photojournalist and junk detective Jim DelGiudice gave an entertaining lecture titled “Small Objects with a Life of Their Own,” at Cedar Crest Retirement Community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. More than 30 residents attended the special event on campus and learned about the little things in their junk drawers such as pencils, fortune cookies, bookmarks, coasters and swizzle sticks.
DelGiudice explained where these mundane items come from and where they end up. For example, swizzle sticks originated in the 1700s at a rum plantation in the West Indies and were used to stir a cocktail called a rum swizzle. Today, plastic cocktail stirrers are used around the world.
A lifetime Morris County resident, DelGiudice is an adjunct assistant professor at County College of Morris. He presents his talks to adult and professional groups around the metropolitan area.
