Will It Reach 90 Degrees In Wayne On Labor Day? See Latest Forecast

WAYNE, NJ — Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and forecasters say North Jersey residents will have dry weather and some late summer heat arriving to greet them this holiday weekend.

Students at Wayne Township schools are getting ready to return to class on Sept. 6, so this is a last hurrah for them — and for school staff — before it's time to buckle down for the 2023/24 school year.

Forecasters say this weekend is going to be a good one for taking a dip in the pool, enjoying a picnic at the park, firing up the grill, or checking out a summer concert.

High pressure will maintain dry conditions across the region through the holiday weekend, said the National Weather Service. It will be cooler in the morning and evening hours Saturday, with heat increasing Sunday.

The forecast calls for temperatures "back in the upper 80s/low 90s" by Labor Day, and temperatures could remain in the 90s next week.

AccuWeather said September will start with dry, comfortable conditions from the Plains through the northeast. And that heat could build, with some locations soon rivaling their hottest temperatures of the year, meteorologists added.

"Late-summer warmth with highs in the 80s will transition to highs in the 90s in many areas," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek.

"It is possible that New York City and other locations that have not yet had a heat wave, finally check that off the list next week."

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 80. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. South wind around 7 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66. West wind 3 to 7 mph.

Labor Day: Sunny, with a high near 92.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.
