Passaic County Ticket Nets Man Top Lottery Prize

David Mascere's holiday is a little sweeter with the win.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — The largest New Jersey Lottery Quick Draw prize was won off of a ticket purchased locally, lottery officials announced.

The $25,000 winning ticket was sold at Murphy's Tavern on Union Boulevard in Totowa Nov. 19. David Mascera, a Roseland resident, bought the ticket.

Mascera, a father of four, regularly watches Sunday Night Football at the tavern.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the numbers come up. I had all seven numbers on my ticket and there were still eight more numbers to be drawn,” said Mascera. “My buddy and I were going nuts. He took the ticket out of my hand and ran up to the screen to double check the numbers.”

Quick Draw tickets cost between $1 and $10 and prizes range from $1 to $1 million, depending on the purchase amount. Winnings are based on the amount of numbers a player picks from a selection of 80. The more paid per draw, the more a player has a chance of winning.

“We are excited about our first top-prize Quick Draw winner,” said Carole Hedinger, New Jersey Lottery executive director. “The excitement of a big win while surrounded by friends and neighbors in a social gathering spot such as Murphy’s Tavern enhances the joy.”
