Letter: Hopefully, Wayne Will Get A Breath Of Fresh Air In November
'It is easy to see how having no opposition in politics encourages less transparency,' the president of the Wayne Democratic Club said.

To the editor:
During an election year incumbent politicians often serve up pleasant surprises to help sway voters to return them to office. Expect them to talk about how this year the municipal taxes have leveled or are slightly reduced. That is not an accomplishment considering that the Republican Party more than doubled taxes since they've had total control of our town's finances. This during 10 plus years when taxpayers' wages were held flat.
Now, during this election year, they feel that we should be grateful to them for not raiding our wallets. Their level of spending has not decreased, it is still higher than last year. A reduction should include spending less than the prior year. Something that they have not been willing to do.

Republican literature prior to the Republican primary contest vote reveals the true picture. It told us of the tens of million in taxes and nothing to show for it. The numerous empty stores visible to everyone driving through town and stagnant property values. To add insult to injury, we have a council person that is costing Wayne taxpayers legal fees in an attempt to lower their own taxes. Don't take my word for it, ask Councilman Joseph Schweighardt.
Here is the problem. Why do we have to wait for a primary contest for the incumbent Republican Party to reveal the township problems? These concerns should have been addressed at their inception. It is easy to see how having no opposition in politics encourages less transparency, inbreeding of ideas and sacred cows.

Hopefully our beautiful town of Wayne will get a breath of fresh air in November.
