Mahwah Soles4Souls Charity Drive Ends Sunday

More than 1,500 pairs of shoes have been donated as of Tuesday.

MAHWAH, NJ — There is still time to donate sneakers and shoes to the Mahwah Schools Foundation's Soles4Souls drive.

The Mahwah Schools Foundation is running the charitable drive in connection with this year's annual Thunderbird Run Saturday.

The goal is to collect 5,000 pairs of shoes. With only a few days to go, 1,500 shoes have been donated. Collected shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that creates sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothes around the world.

"The Thunderbird Run and the Mahwah Schools Foundation is a strong support in the Soles4Souls mission of disrupting the cycle of poverty," said Jamie Brisby, one of the run's co-chairs. "We hope to take a big step in providing the organization with new and gently-used shoes that they require to keep making a difference for people in need."

Gently-used shoes will be distributed to micro-enterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras, and other developing countries.

"The simple truth is that almost everyone has sneakers in their closet that they no longer wear, or children with sneakers that they've outgrown," Brisby said. "When you donate those to our drive, know that you are taking a step to making the world a better place for all of us."

Shoes may also be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Liberty Hyundai, 305 Route 17 North
  • Liberty Kia, 815 Route 17 South
  • Liberty Subaru, 55 Kinderkamack Road, Emerson
  • Liberty Hyundai Service Center, 371 Route 17 North
  • Ridgewood Moving Company, 575 Corporate Drive, Suite 405
  • Mahwah Town Hall, 375 Corporate Drive
  • Mahwah Police Department, 221 Franklin Turnpike
  • Mahwah Public Library, 100 Ridge Road

The last chance to donate will be at the Thunderbird Run at Mahwah High School Sunday.
