The 'Roof Is On Fire,' Customer Tells Wayne McDonald's Staff; Restaurant Closed

No one was injured when a light on the restaurant roof's caught fire Sunday night. Now the restaurant is closed for repairs.

WAYNE, NJ — The McDonald's on Hamburg Turnpike is closed for repairs after a fire broke out there Sunday night.

A preliminary investigation revealed that someone came into the store and told people that the "roof was on fire," said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin. The store manager called 9-1-1 and started evacuating the store.

Police responded to the business at 7 p.m. and saw a roof light fixture on fire and saw several employees still inside the business, along with a customer vehicle in the drive-thru lane, Martin said.

Wayne Fire Co. No. 4 responded and extinguished the fire with no issues, injuries or casualties, Martin said.

The township fire inspector and health inspector investigated and determined that no foul play was involved, the captain said. An electrical light on the outside of the roof may have started the fire.

PSE&G evaluated the damage to the building as well.

The restaurant was closed for seven months last year and this year after a deep fryer caught fire.
