Motorcyclist Launched From Bike, Killed In Route 80 Crash, Police Say

The 27-year-old struck a guardrail, police said.

WAYNE, NJ — A 27-year-old motorcyclist is dead following a collision on Route 80 in Passaic County this weekend.

On Friday, around 1 a.m., police were called to the Route 80 East ramp in Wayne on reports of a crash.

Authorities found Nicholas E. Coombs, of Montclair, was riding his Yamaha from Route 23 South onto the Route 80 East ramp when the bike struck a guard rail, sending him airborne, police say.

Coombs suffered serious injuries from the crash and was found unresponsive at the scene, police added.

He was declared dead at the scene.

The ramp was closed until around 7:30 a.m. that morning.

The crash is still under investigation, and anyone who may have seen it is asked to call the Wayne Police Department at 973-633-3520.
