Wayne Man Hit by Bus, Dragged 1 Mile, Suffers Only Minor Injuries
The man was stuck under the bus for 1 mile, and 30 minutes, as it continued traveling.

A 60-year-old Wayne man was hit Monday by a New Jersey Transit bus, and then stuck underneath while the vehicle kept going for a mile, police said.
He suffered only minor injuries.
A Wayne police officer “observed the bus traveling on Route 23 north and could see legs dangling from underneath the bus” while he was underneath for 30 minutes, Wayne Detective Captain Mark McGrath said.

The Wayne Police Department first received a call just before 6 p.m. “reporting that a New Jersey Transit bus may have struck a dog while turning into the Wayne Route 23 transit facility.” But the bus left the transit facility and proceeded onto Route 23 North when a second call came in reporting that there was a person stuck underneath the bus.
The vehicle stopped on Route 23 North near Alps Road and a Wayne Police Officer was able to confirm that there was person stuck under the bus. The victim was conscious and alert and was able to speak to the officer.

The man, from Mountainview Boulevard in Wayne, was apparently struck by the bus while walking his dog, Wayne police said. The dog was discovered deceased on the highway.
The Wayne First Aid Squad and Wayne Fire Department responded and extricated the victim and he was transported to St. Joe’s Hospital in Paterson with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the bus traveled about a mile with the trapped man underneath.
The New Jersey Transit Police Department is conducting a follow up investigation.
