Police Continue to Investigate 'Suspicious' Death

Gail Dews was found at the bottom of a gorge in Pennsylvania in March.

Authorities are still investigating how Wayne resident Gail Dews ended up dead at the bottom of a waterfall in Pennsylvania nearly five months after she died.

Dews’ body was found at the bottom of a 92-foot gorge in Shohola Falls, Pa., early on March 11. She was 56 years old.

Dews’ husband Stephen reported her missing from a nearby convenience store about two miles from the gorge.

Police said Dews’ death is ‘”suspicious.”

Pike County Coroner Kevin Stroyan ruled multiple blunt force injuries consistent with a fall from the top of the gorge killed Dews. Police are still investigating how Dews, who lived in Wayne for most of her life, ended up at the bottom of the gorge, The Pocono Record reported on its website.

Police interviewed Stephen Dews and other family members as part of the investigation.

Investigators are awaiting lab test results, Trooper Connie Devens told the website. 

Devens could not be reached for comment Monday.

Shohola Falls is located about 50 miles from Wayne.

Dews, a mother of three, was a clerk for a local dairy distributor.
