A fresh slate of candidates is possible because several former and current incumbents left or will leave their seats.
The Passaic County GOP appointed Rooney to fill a vacancy left when former Assemblyman Scott Rumana became a Superior Court judge. District Senator Kevin O'Toole is not seeking re-election this year and may step down before his term is complete as a result of Governor Christie nominating him for the Port Authority board. Assemblyman David Russo will also not run for re-election. Corrado could be selected to fill O'Toole's term in the same way Rooney was selected to fill Rumana's.
