Wyckoff Mayor, County Clerk Announce Run For District 40 Legislative Seats
Wyckoff resident Christopher DePhillips and county Clerk Kristin Corrado are also seeking the GOP nomination.
WYCKOFF, N.J. — Township Mayor Kevin J. Rooney and Christopher DePhillips, a township attorney, are seeking the Republican nomination for the two state Legislative District 40 Assembly seats on the Republican ticket, the candidates announced Tuesday.
Passaic County Clerk Kirstin Corrado is seeking the nomination on the ticket for the district's Senate seat.
Rooney was mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed Senator Kevin O’Toole as far back as January, the same month O’Toole announced he would not run for re-election when his term ends in January 2018.

It is not known if longtime District 40 Assemblymen Scott Rumana and David Russo are running for re-election. They could not be immediately reached for comment.

“We have been very well served in District 40 by Senator O’Toole and Assemblymen Russo and Rumana and I look forward to working with Kristin and Chris, should we elected,” Rooney said, “to continue the tradition of public service and advocacy for all the residents of District 40 and for New Jersey.”
Rooney did not return a phone call seeking additional comment.

Rooney is a lifelong Bergen County resident. He grew up in Upper Saddle River and is a graduate of Ramapo College. He was first elected to the Wyckoff Township Committee in 2009 and previously served as mayor in 2011 and 2015. He is a partner in his mother-in-law’s business, HMS Global Holdings, LLC, a real estate development and management company. He and his wife, Hayley own Holland Hills Farm, LLC, an Equestrian center in Mahwah.
DePhillips has been a practicing attorney for 24 years. He was an assistant to Congresswoman Marge Roukema for three yeas in the late 1980s. He served on the Wyckoff Township Committee from 2010 to 2013. He was appointed mayor in 2012.
DePhillips has been a commissioner with the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority since 2012. He has also served on the board of the New Jersey chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“Community and public service have been at the forefront of my life,” DePhillips said. “This opportunity to serve the residents of District 40 in the Legislature allows me the chance to continue my public service.”
Corrado is in her second term as Passaic County Clerk. She has been an attorney for 25 years and is a partner in the law firm of Corrado & Corrado in Totowa.
