Route 23 Mixed-Use Application Continues Tonight At Board Meeting

Galreh LLC wants to put a Trader Joe's and 232-unit apartment complex on Route 23 South.

WAYNE, N.J. — Testimony will continue on the Route 23 retail and luxury residential development at the Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting Monday.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will be broadcast on cable channel 77 and online.

The property’s owner, Galreh LLC wants to develop the 10-acre property after unsuccessfully trying to market it to various businesses since 2008.

A Trader Joe’s is slated to occupy the 12,800-square-foot retail space. Galreh also spoke with Whole Foods Market and ShopRite to try and get them to come to the property, but talks broke down with reach retailer.

Of the 232 luxury apartments slated to be built, 112 would have one-bedroom and 116 would have two. About 23 would be affordably-priced.

The south side of Route 23 is mostly unfriendly to businesses, except to coffee and bagel shops, according to testimony given at a previous meeting. Many more commuters use the southbound side versus the northbound.
