Students Learn Valuable Skills While Having Fun

B.A.B.E.S. Awareness Classes Held at 9 Elementary Schools

Wayne, NJ – Pictured are students from Fallon & Lafayette Elementary Schools with instructor, Jennifer Carr. Fallon, Lafayette & Theunis Elementary schools were the final schools to receive the BABES classes during the 2017-2018 school season.

The program is brought to the schools by the Wayne Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse with a grant from the Governor’s Council Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (GCADA). The grant typically covers three schools. However, Robbin Gulino, Wayne Alliance Coordinator shared “We are grateful to have received a grant, this year, from Chilton Medical Center allowing us to bring this valuable program to all 9 elementary schools.”

Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies (BABES) is a primary prevention program designed to give children protection from substance abuse. BABES instructor, Jennifer Carr, also a local mom, accomplishes this by assisting young people in developing positive living skills while by providing them with non-judgmental information about the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Today’s children are tomorrow’s future. By developing a strong self-esteem, our goal is that children will grow into adulthood with a confident and healthy outlook; able to cope with the problems facing today’s youth, including among other issues; pregnancy, depression, suicide and alcohol and other drug abuse.
