Testimony Will Continue Tonight Regarding Route 23 Residential/Restaurant Application

232 luxury apartments and a 262-seat restaurant could be built on the 10-acre site on Route 23 South

WAYNE, N.J. — Testimony will continue at a Board of Adjustment meeting Monday regarding an application to put a luxury apartment and retail complex on the 10-acre site.

Testimony has gone on for months. The owner of the property, Galreh LLC, has been trying to develop the lot since 2008, but has been unsuccessful in trying to market it to various businesses.

The property, at 1895 Route 23, is on the southbound side of the highway, a side that many retailers, including Whole Foods, Wegman's, CVS, and ShopRite, said is not business-friendly, except to coffee and bagels shops due to the number of commuters traveling on that side of the highway versus the northbound side.

The property borders Sandra Lane, the Pompton River, and Pequannock Township. Wayne Lincoln Mercury, located across from the property, stores vehicles there.

At issue was the wastewater drainage system plan that accompanied the application. Officials wanted to see the plan change since the property is in a low-lying area and in a flood zone.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the council chamber at the Municipal Complex.
