Trio Of Teens Charged With Wayne Package Theft: Police

WAYNE, NJ — Three teenagers were arrested and charged Wednesday with stealing a package from a resident's home after tracking its delivery using cell phones.

Thafour Felix and Devell J. Benjamin, both 18 and of Brooklyn, and Taliek Jones, 19, of Newark, were charged with receiving stolen property after police arrested them, said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin.

Three Wayne police officers responded to Harmony Lane at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday about a reported package theft in progress. A neighbor witnessed three suspects in a black Honda with New York license plates steal a delivered package, Martin said.

The officers saw packages in the back seat with the victim's name and address on them; the package had $885 in designer sneakers and clothes inside while another package from Springfield had $1,000 women's designer jacket inside, Martin said.

The trio told neighbors who confronted them as to why they were in the area that their car had broken down, Martin said.

The three teenagers were each charged with receiving stolen property and fraudulent use of a credit card, Martin said. Felix and Jones were also each charged with hindering apprehension, he said.

Felix and Benjamin were released on summonses. Jones had a warrant out for his arrest and turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff's Department and lodged in the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing, Martin said.
