As Ukraine continues battling Russia, community members in New Jersey will honor the nation.
CLIFTON, NJ — While Ukraine continues battling Russia, community members in New Jersey will honor the nation. Ukraine's Independence Day is Wednesday, and the City of Clifton will raise its flag at City Hall.
The flag-raising takes place at 6 p.m. Wednesday on 900 Clifton Ave. New Jersey has one of the nation's highest Ukrainian populations, and some of them call Clifton home. The city is home to the Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Church, which has held donation drives for Ukraine amid Russia's invasion.
The holiday, celebrated Aug. 24, commemorates the adoption of Ukraine's Declaration of Independence in 1991.
