WATCH: Vehicle Catches Fire, Live Power Lines Fall Following Route 23 Car Crash
One vehicle caught fire after a utility pole was struck and fell across Route 23 North Tuesday, police said.

WAYNE, NJ – A vehicle caught on fire on Route 23 North Tuesday afternoon after a utility pole fell and live wires surrounded the vehicle, police said.
A northbound vehicle struck a utility pole near Michael’s, causing it to fall, dropping live police lines across the highway, said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin.
A vehicle in the center lane was surrounded by live power lines and caught on fire, Martin said; two other vehicles on the southbound side of the highway struck the center divider, the detective captain said.

Responding police officers extinguished the car fire, Martin said, and the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department and First Aid Squad also responded to the scene.
Two people were taken to the hospital on complaints of pain, Martin said.

Brian Metzger, 40, of Oakridge, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
