Wayne Clergy Hosting March For Peace Thursday

The event is an opportunity to 'denounce all forms of hatred.'

WAYNE, NJ — A group of Wayne clergy is hosting a special march Thursday as a public denouncement of the violence that erupted in Charlottesville, Virginia during a white supremacist rally.

The Wayne Clergy Fellowship will host an interfaith March for Peace beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Timothy Lutheran Church at 395 Valley Road. The march will end a quarter of a mile away at the Wayne Municipal Complex at 475 Valley Road.

The march will conclude with a brief prayer service.

Andy Smith, pastor of Grace United Presbyterian Church, came up with the idea for the march. Smith could not immediately be reached for comment.

Attendees are asked to bring a candle to light during the march.

The Wayne Clergy Fellowship is a group of local religious leaders that meet regularly and coordinate occasional town wide events like the march.
