Wayne College Alumnus Dies From Falling Off Escalator At World Trade Center

Jennifer Santos, 29, died after falling from an escalator inside the World Trade Center Oculus early Saturday morning.

The woman who died after falling from an escalator inside the World Trade Center Oculus early Saturday morning was a graduate of William Paterson University, according to reports.

Jennifer Santos of Kearny was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital after she fell 30 feet from an escalator at about 5:30 a.m. while apparently trying to grab something, authorities form the NYPD and Port Authority police said.

The New York Daily News reported that Santos was trying to grab a hat her twin sister Jessica accidently dropped.

Santos coached at the Bergen County Rowing Academy.

"She will be greatly missed by our rowers, and everyone who knew her," the academy stated in a Facebook post Saturday night, adding that everyone there was "in shock," regarding what happened.

"What a tragic loss of a wonderful person and a caring coach," the academy said.

The academy posted pictures of Santos on its Facebook page Saturday.

The $6 billion mall and transportation hub has more than 13 subway trains and river ferries that use it.

The mall's real estate is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and its retail space is owned by Westfield Properties.
