Wayne Lacrosse Player Continues To Battle Cancer
Jake Rudd is battling Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of children's bone cancer.

WAYNE, NJ — Jake Rudd is happy and looking forward to playing lacrosse again.
Rudd, a freshman lacrosse player at Wayne Valley High School, has been battling Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of children's bone cancer for two years. He's had multiple surgeries, the most recent lasting five hours on Jan. 18, and chemotherapy.
The surgery consisted of a bone graft and other adjustments to Rudd's hip and leg, which were already supposed to be healing properly, his coach Robert Glander said. The procedure is designed to promote healing and allow Rudd to walk again. For now, he has to avoid non-weight bearing activities for another six months.

Despite the setback, Rudd remains happy and optimistic.
"His determination, positive outlook and overall amazing attitude is so essential to getting him, and his family, through these challenges," Glander said. "His friends and family continue to be inspired by him each day."

More than $36,000 has been donated to Rudd and his family on a gofundme campaign launched shortly after he was diagnosed. Donations continue to be accepted.
Wayne police officers grew beards and did not cut their hair in November to help raise funds for Rudd.
"The Rudd family is incredibly grateful for all of the continued love, support and well wishes," Glander said.
