Wayne Mayor Issues Guidelines For Graduations

WAYNE, NJ — Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High School graduations are being facilitated by the township this year. Also different for the 2020 class is a piece of graduation attire: a face mask.

Mayor Christopher Vergano, in a public notice released Thursday afternoon, laid out a set of eight guidelines and pieces of information for students and graduation attendees to follow, and keep in mind.

They include:

• Students must wear face coverings during the procession. All individuals are strongly encouraged to wear appropriate face coverings.
• Chairs will be set up six feet apart and should not be moved. Social distancing of at least six feet must be maintained.
• If an individual, including graduating students, has a temperature of 100.4 F or greater, they are not permitted to attend the graduation ceremony. Individuals who are sick should not attend the graduation ceremony. Signage will be posted discouraging anyone from attending if they or anyone in their household is experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness or COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
• Programs will be distributed electronically prior to the graduation ceremony.
• All guests must maintain a social distance of six feet. However, family groups may sit together.
• Chairs will be cleaned before and after being used.
• The ceremony will occur entirely outdoors.
• There will be no restrooms available.

According to the notice, any person who doesn't fulfill these requirements will be asked to leave.

Wayne Valley's ceremony is scheduled for June 18 beginning at 6 p.m. Students should arrive at 5:15 p.m.

Wayne Hills will have a ceremony the following day, June 19, also beginning at 6 p.m. Students for that ceremony should also arrive at 5:15 p.m.
