Wayne Mother And Daughter Knitting Purple Caps For Newborns

Maria and Isabella Galan are hosting a knit-a-thon to raise awareness for Shaken Baby Syndrome. Last year they collected more than 250 caps.

WAYNE, NJ — A township mother and daughter are trying to raise awareness about Shaken Baby Syndrome with a knit-a-thon.

Maria Galan and her daughter, Isabella are hosting a knit-a-thon to support the Click for Babies campaign.

Last year they helped provide 250 purple caps to raise awareness about Shaken Baby Syndrome and the period of purple crying for newborns. Purple crying is a normal, but frustrating time of increased crying infants experience in the first few months after birth.

Caps will be given to newborns in November and December.

The knit-a-thon is Sept. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary School.
