For Howard Freeman, planning for this week's 3-day festival is a full-time job.

WAYNE, NJ — For Howard Freeman, life is about being up in the clouds. Literally.

Freeman is the producer of the QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, now in its 35th year and celebrating with its largest lineup above and on the ground.

The three-day festival is Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Solberg Airport in Readington. More than 100 hot-air balloons will take the skies.

"Everyone says that ballooning is good news and that good news travels fast," Freeman told the website. "We expect to see a lot of people out there, families enjoying the magic of ballooning, as well as the great concerts."

The festival will once again honor America with a five-story tall American flag balloon; created following 9/11, it is the world’s largest free-flying American flag.
Other special shaped balloons include an 85-foot-tall lion, the 110-foot-tall panda, the 105-foot-tall bear, an 85-foot-tall Angry Bird and an 80-foot-tall football.
