Wayne Republicans Maintain Dominance In Mayor, Council Races
Mayor Christopher Vergano's slate ended Election Night with major leads and declared victories.

WAYNE, NJ — With major leads and declared victories, Republicans are set to continue their dominance of Wayne Township.
Results updated overnight Tuesday show Mayor Christopher P. Vergano receiving more than twice as many votes as Democratic challenger Arlene Sullivan. Republicans Jill Sasso, David Varano and Jason J. DeStefano also hold significant advantages in the Township Council race.

If the results become official, Varano and Sasso would maintain their seats, while DeStefano would join the council.
Passaic County's unofficial tallies show 97.62 percent of Wayne districts reporting. Results don't become official until the county clerk certifies them.

But Vergano's slate felt confident in its lead, declaring the win on Election Night.
"Thank you to the voters of Wayne for your overwhelming support in this election," Vergano wrote on social media. "It is an honor to continue as your Mayor! Congratulations to my running mates Jill and Dave on your re-election and welcome to the Town Council Jay!"
Wayne's council is comprised of all Republicans except for Ward 5 Council Member Francine Ritter, a Democrat.
