Wayne Residents Share The Lead In Passaic County Amateur Championship: Report

Chris Avedissian and Joe Henderson are in the lead at 6 over par. Other Wayne residents are in the event's top 10.

If there really are golf gods, they might have just smiled at Chris Avedissian.

Avedissian, a Wayne resident, is in first place heading into the final round of the Passaic County Amateur Championship, NorthJersey.com reported.

The final round of the championship at Preakness Valley Golf Course was rained out Sunday. It’s been rescheduled for July 12.

The delay gives Avedissian time to rest his injured hand; he broke a bone in his left hand. He shot a 6-over-par 75 and shares the lead with Joe Henderson, 64, another Wayne resident, the website reported.

Avedissian, 24, who finished fourth in last year’s championship, told the The Record that he felt he drove the ball ”really well.”

“From tee to green, I felt I played really well,” Avedissian said.

Wayne’s Bobby Erianne, a four-time winner of the event, and Brad Dragone are tied for third with DePaul Catholic High School’s Ryan Fitzsimmons, this year’s county champ.

Avedissian, recovering from a broken bone in his left hand, will need to continue to play well, because six players are within three strokes of the leaders, the website reported; Robert McHugh, a freshman at Wayne Hills who led the Patriots to the county team title this year, is tied for sixth at 77 and Wayne’s Brian Wilcox, the event’s defending champion, is eighth with a 78.
